![]() ![]() Also, some of the factory presets on the Eventide just sound 80s/90s to me in general. For 90's sounds, I automatically think Eventide, as some of their algorithms are derived from rack gear that was around and used in studios and onstage during that era. I think if we are going for authenticity, the Ventris Plate & Spring sounds are more realistic, but the Eventide Plate & Spring can be easily pushed further into weirdness territory. Both the Ventris and the Eventide pedals have great Plate & Spring algorithms. I would think that 70s acid rock would traditionally be either plate reverb or spring (or tape echo, which you could do with the H9, but not really part of this reverb discussion), and when I think 90's, I think digital rack or Boss reverbs. I love love love the ability to change settings using an iPad (something I still haven't figured out on my Strymon Timeline, which precludes the Big Sky as an option for me).Ĭould you break down the accolades and shortcomings of the H9/SpaceReverb and the Ventris as you see it? really appreciate that From what i've seen and researched the H9/SpaceReverb and the Ventris are the two front-runners. i've only ever used my amps natural reverb to help my notes 'bloom' (use a eat reverb), but never really dipped into using reverb as an effect all on its own and am enamored by the possibilities from these super reverb engines. I do gigs where i'll bring in my big board, make loops and play on my own for about 90minutes (usually to kids who are 'pretty out there' on a saturday night.the crossroads of hippy and hipster hahaha).basically musical masturbation.my boomerang plus looper is very important to me for this type of playing. I've been moving into some more modern tones and sounds, and have been moving on into a more soundscape-y type of playing with my group, but especially solo. I play a bunch of different styles.predominately acid rock with a 70s vibe crossed with a 90s alt rock vibe. It’s definitely a contender with the others. It’s the one I still have, and there’s so much more I haven’t even talked about with it. + “shimmer” stuff is fantastic (can also control how much is in the “reverb tank” neat feature.) + density of reverb control is essential for a good “feel” to the reverb. + ultraplate is the best plate reverb I’ve ever heard. + cathedra verb is phenomenal and wide and everlasting. (Not the same as mind you, but quality wise) Easily holds it own against a wet or Bigsky cloud mode. Definitely not why I bought the pedal though. Just slight modulation, could get very dark, and so, so dreamy. I don’t think it would be my main reverb but I’d love to have it again as a sideman verb. + very powerful and impressive reverb for such a small package. +/- definitely better at the ambient stuff than the natural sounding things. + smooth sounds that were Phenomenal for the “wall of sound” stuff (Had it years ago, don’t remember much but.) Better at lower key, natural stuff but shines in a world of “produced” reverb sounds. Overall a great reverb with lots of different style options, and eq options. hard to get a “wall of sound” without sounding muddy. Very very good to have in a Reverb pedal. I can’t tell you how convenient that thing was at the end of my chain. + isolation transformer for stereo ground loop issues (actually had to buy a pedal that would fix this when I moved this pedal along) + has a five loop looper in the beta process. It really fits well with anything ambient. Overall a phenomenal and fantastic sounding pedal. It’s not bad! You just can’t dial it out. +/- It also has a “sheen” or “digital sound” or “brightness” to it people talk about. +/- GREAT modulation but you can’t set exact depth and speeds separately. + Cloud mode is one of the best reverbs out there. ![]() + easy to get a huge “wall of sound” without clarity being lost. + Very touch dynamic reverb that sits well with the dry sound I can say they are all incredible and almost none of them overlap. ![]() After having a bigsky, empress reverb, wet reverb, flint and a mercury 7. ![]()
